What's currently happening in the broader world of sustainability and LEDs? Our current spotlight: Philadelphia. There are a lot of fun facts you need to know about Philadelphia's initiative to replace 130,000 high-pressure sodium streetlights with energy-efficient LED lights! 💡 Here's how the LED lighting project in Philly is going to benefit the city: 💡 The LED lights are going to save a lot of energy, which is the equivalent of removing over 2,000 cars from the road annually. 💡 LED lights are expected to improve safety in areas prone to gun violence and road fatalities by providing better lighting. 💡 Studies suggest that well-lit areas may experience a decrease in property crimes. 💡 LED streetlights have been associated with a reduction in nighttime pedestrian injuries and intersection crashes. Follow along for more LED news, products and more.

⏰ DO YOU DESIGN LIGHTING/LIVE IN PA?⏰ THIS ISN"T ABOUT PRODUCT THIS IS ABOUT THE LIGHTING COMMUNITY!!!! PA House Bill 1803 or the Responsible Outdoor Lighting Control Act will impact your design and overall life. PLEASE read, if this affects you reach out to your congress people Some highlights: - Outdoor lights must be shielded - BUG rating of B0 U0 - Max light trespass 220 Lumens at border - 27K or less in all outdoor lights regardless of location. Th - When maintaining outdoor lighting near roadways, instead of replacing lights the state can decide to just use reflective tape - Flag pole lights must face DOWN - Basis of design for all commercial and residential space should be based on public buildings (IMO, this one is 🍌 ) This is a simplified list.

The recent enactment of the Build America, Buy America (BABA) Act marks a pivotal shift for the LED lighting retrofit industry, especially within the commercial and industrial sectors. This legislation not only prioritizes the use of American-made products but also sets a new standard for procurement practices in public infrastructure projects, including lighting upgrades. Here’s why the BABA Act is crucial for our industry: Supports Local Industries: By requiring the use of American-made products, the BABA Act ensures that investments in infrastructure directly benefit local manufacturing, boosting job creation and supporting our domestic economy. Ensures Quality and Reliability: American-made lighting solutions often meet higher quality standards, which are critical for the demanding environments of commercial and industrial facilities. This translates into fewer failures and replacements down the line, optimizing the total cost of ownership. Promotes Sustainability: Leveraging local supply chains reduces transportation distances, resulting in lower carbon footprints. This aligns with the environmental goals of many companies undertaking retrofit projects. Compliance and Incentives: For projects that require federal funding, compliance with the BABA Act is crucial. Additionally, this compliance can often unlock various government incentives, making projects more financially viable. Orion Energy Systems, Inc., is at the forefront, ready to help your business navigate these new requirements with our wide range of American-made LED products. We are here to ensure that your lighting retrofit projects are not only compliant but also commercially advantageous! #LEDLighting #BABAAct #Infrastructure #AmericanMade #Sustainability #OrionEnergySystems #CommercialLighting #IndustrialLighting

Solving common issues in fiber optic polishing involves addressing problems related to surface finish, connector end face geometry, and overall polishing consistency. Here are some tips to solve common issues: 1. Surface Scratches or Defects Cause: Abrasive contamination, improper cleaning, or using a polishing film with incorrect grit size. Solution: Ensure the polishing area is clean and free from debris. Use a proper cleaning method between polishing steps (e.g., using lint-free wipes with isopropyl alcohol). Select the correct polishing film with the appropriate grit size for the stage of polishing. 2. Undercutting or Recess Cause: Excessive pressure during polishing or using worn-out polishing films. Solution: Reduce the pressure applied during polishing to avoid over-removal of material. Replace the polishing film once it shows signs of wear. 3. Poor Connector End Face Geometry Cause: Incorrect polishing process or film, improper alignment, or uneven pressure. Solution: Use the right polishing sequence, including proper film progression (from coarse to fine). Ensure that the polishing fixture is correctly aligned and applies even pressure across the end face. Regularly check and calibrate the polishing equipment to maintain consistency. 4. Excessive Fiber Height or Protrusion Cause: Incorrect pressure or polishing time, or inadequate film selection. Solution: Adjust the pressure and polishing time according to the specific connector type and polishing requirements. Use polishing films that match the fiber material and connector design. 5. Inconsistent Results Between Polishing Batches Cause: Variations in polishing films, equipment settings, or environmental conditions. Solution: Standardize the polishing process, including consistent use of the same polishing films and equipment settings. Control environmental factors such as temperature and humidity, as they can affect the polishing results. 6. Connector Not Passing Interferometer Test Cause: Inadequate final polishing or using the wrong polishing sequence. Solution: Perform a final polishing step with a high-quality polishing film (such as one designed for final polishing stages like silicon dioxide-based films). Verify that the entire polishing sequence is correctly followed, ensuring smooth transitions between grit sizes. 7. Fiber Cracks or Chips Cause: Excessive force or improper handling during polishing. Solution: Handle the connectors carefully to avoid applying excessive force. Use a polishing fixture designed to minimize the risk of fiber damage. 8. Connector End Face Contamination Cause: Insufficient cleaning between polishing steps or improper storage. Solution: Clean the connectors thoroughly between polishing steps. Store the connectors in a clean, dust-free environment to prevent contamination. By systematically addressing these issues, you can achieve more consistent and high-quality fiber optic polishing results.
